We are a piano school located in Ijiri (Minami-ku) and Kego (Chuo-ku), Fukuoka City. By integrating Western teaching methodologies, we aim to unlock each child's potential and nurture both their "inner strength" and rich artistic sensibility. We also offer a wide range of comprehensive programs for adult learners.
Profile: Mikiya Mochizuki
Born in Fukuoka. After graduating from Chikushigaoka High School, he moved to Europe and spent seven years studying abroad. During this time, he visited various educational institutions and renowned piano professors worldwide to research diverse teaching methodologies. He is a graduate of the Lübeck Academy of Music (Germany) and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Netherlands).
Mikiya is highly regarded for his unique teaching style, which not only ensures rapid technical improvement but also fosters empathy, problem-solving skills, and creativity. While building a distinguished career as a piano educator, he also remains active as a concert pianist, performing frequently in Japan and abroad.
My journey with the piano began at the age of three. However, I wasn’t raised in an elite musical environment, nor did I spend my childhood constantly competing in contests. It started simply as one of my many after-school activities at a large music school. In fact, until the end of elementary school, I wasn't particularly passionate about the piano. That changed when I met a private teacher who truly inspired me; I became captivated by the instrument and began training seriously to become a professional. At 18, I finally fulfilled my dream of moving to Europe to further my studies.
During my time in Europe, I visited numerous higher education institutions and met with world-class performers and educators. I witnessed many different approaches to piano education, and while each method was unique, they all shared one common philosophy: lessons are designed to foster respect and love for music, and to help students enjoy life from the bottom of their hearts. This "enjoyment" does not mean the lessons are easy or low-level. Whether the student is a small child or an adult, their focus is intensely serious. I opened Mochiko Piano School because I wanted to bring this same philosophy—"Authenticity through Joy"—to my hometown of Fukuoka.
What is required of piano education in the future? I believe in a teaching method that goes beyond just improving technical skills; it should empower students with the strength to navigate the coming era. Even in this digital age, we need "Empathy" to build deep human connections, "Problem-Solving Skills" to overcome challenges in a rapidly changing world, and "Creativity" to express individuality in an increasingly automated society. My goal is to nurture these essential qualities through our lessons.
Age does not matter when it comes to enjoying music. After all, I believe we are all born musicians. I look forward to meeting you. If you are curious about our approach, please come and knock on the door of Mochiko Piano School.
At Mochico Piano School, we proactively integrate the best practices from the diverse piano traditions of the U.S., Russia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Through our world-class lessons, students can acquire both solid technical foundations and a unique, expressive musicality.
Solfege is training focused on the essential skill of reading music. Becoming proficient at reading musical scores is the first step toward independent practice. In addition to developing a strong sense of rhythm and pitch, we emphasize the importance of proper fingering—a critical element for any pianist.
By thoroughly training these three core pillars, students do more than just memorize pieces; they build a solid musical foundation that will serve them for a lifetime, well into adulthood.
Mochico Piano School is a place where students can enjoy the journey of learning the piano. At the same time, we have a proven track record of nurturing students who become competition prize-winners or gain admission to prestigious academic schools.
Our team of instructors is highly qualified, with backgrounds including degrees from world-renowned music conservatories, extensive teaching experience, and specialized expertise in early childhood education. We place great importance on collaboration; through regular study sessions and workshops, our teachers share insights and coordinate closely to ensure we are always providing the highest standard of instruction with an ambitious mindset.
We offer both group and individual lessons to suit each student's needs.

At Mochico Piano School, students gain invaluable stage experience through our studio recitals, annual school concerts, and various piano competitions.
The journey to the stage is filled with ups and downs—there are moments of joy from a successful performance and moments of frustration when things don't go as planned. We believe that by navigating the entire process leading up to a performance, students develop the resilience and life skills necessary to thrive in the world.
